huish park - general information
Huish Park is a relatively new stadium, opening for the 1990/91 season. It replaced the old Huish ground (famous for its side-to-side slope, of course) which was demolished and replaced by a Tesco supermarket :-(
Official capacity is 8720, of which 5212 are seated. The club's claimed highest attendance is the 8612 against Arsenal in the FA Cup 3rd round in January 1993, but many will tell you that official capacity was exceeded in the previous round against Hereford United, which was not all-ticket.
The highest crowd for a league game was the amazing 8,007 for the top-of-the-table ICIS league clash against Enfield, March 25th 1997. There were thousands more locked out, but the ground couldn't be filled as Enfield hadn't brought many fans down, and segregation was required.
The old Huish ground saw crowds of over 15,000 on occasions; the highest in my memory was also a 3rd Round tie against Arsenal, the season they went on to do the double (1971).
