directions to huish park

Huish Park is an out-of-town ground, some way from the centre. It's on the north-east side of the town. For those who know the area, it's on land that was part of the army's Houndstone Camp.

For road access, from most directions you'll be wanting to approach from the A303. See further down this page for rail info.

Map

From the North

Your main options are to take the A37 road from Bristol towards Yeovil, or take the M5 to Taunton then the A358 and A303. If choosing the latter route, follow the Yeovil signs from the Taunton turn-off of the motorway, then, once on the A303, follow the 'from the west' directions shown below.

If choosing the A37 route, turn onto the A303 westbound at Podimore, then onto the A37 Southbound at Ilchester. Then follow the 'from the east' directions below.

Leave the A303 Westbound at the Ilchester (A37) turn-off, and follow signs towards Yeovil. After about 2 miles you will reach some houses and a pub ("The Halfway House", recommended for a pre-match pint) on a left bend.

Right on the bend, take the turning to the right, signed for Chilthorn Domer. This turning is easy to miss, be careful (see upper picture on the right)

Follow this road up the hill, through the dip, and up the gulley through the trees. At the top, go straight across the first cross-roads, and turn right at the rather strangely-shaped mini-roundabout (see lower picture on the right).

Take the first left turn into Western Avenue just after you've left the built-up area, then first right (Copse Road). Huish Park will now be seen on the left. The road that leads down towards the ground from here takes you into the main car park.

For the main club entrance, executive car park, and secondary public car park, follow Copse Road around the bend into Lufton Way, then take the first left.

Note, part of this route is not suitable for large vehicles. For coaches, etc, stay on the A37 towards Yeovil; at the first roundabout turn right, and keep going straight along Thorne Lane until you reach Western Avenue as described above.

From the South

From the A37 from Dorchester, turn left at the Quicksilver Mail onto the West Coker Road. At the next roundabout (1 mile?) turn right to go down the hill towards the Westland factory. Turn left at the roundabout at the bottom of the hill, then follow the main round past the A3088 junction, and follow the instructions below.

From the West

Leave the A303 at the A3088 Yeovil junction (the Cartgate Roundabout). At the end of this road (5 miles?) turn left at the roundabout. Go up the hill until you pass the crematorium on the left, and the supermarket on the right. Go straight across the roundabout, past Halfords, past the warehouse units, then you will see the ground on your left. Turn left just after the ground, and the car park is the first left again.

Access by Rail

Yeovil has two railway stations, but both are a long distance from the football ground.

Yeovil Junction is on the Waterloo to Exeter line, and has a variable service of roughly one train per hour or so. Junction is to the South of the town, and is about four miles from Huish Park. Taxis seem to be the best bet getting to the ground. As far as I am aware, there is no longer a direct bus service, but you could try Southern National (01935 476233), they do run a bus service to the Town Centre, still about two miles or so from the ground.

You could take a hopper bus from Junction into the town centre, and have a pint there and then get taxis from there to the ground. The hopper drops off at the bus station, where you can enquire about buses to the ground. Personally, I wouldn't rely on getting a bus to Huish Park.

Yeovil Pen Mill is on the Bristol/Westbury/Weymouth line, and has an even less frequent train service than Junction. It is a mile or so from the Town Centre, about three miles from Huish Park. The train times don't tie in with games very well at all; using Pen Mill is pretty much a non-starter.

For up-to-date info on train times, see the Railtrack site.
