May sees the title challenge finally killed off - and the season ends with the club entering into traditional turmoil.
The match that finally finished off Yeovil was at home to Hereford United. The Bulls inflicted their first league defeat on the Glovers since returning from the Football League, and Ian Rodgerson silences Huish Park.
The following day sees club Chairman John Fry slating manager Colin Addison on the radio, blaming Colin for losing the lead, without mentioning that Colin earned us that lead in the first place. Addison isn't sacked, but his position is such that he can have no future at the club. He waits until the final game is completed, then reads an angry resignation statement to the press.
But that's not all, Fry's ability to turn any situation into a disaster hasn't finished yet. The longest serving players are out of contract, but are only offered poor one year deals. Warren Patmore has played his last game for Yeovil, and it's likely that Tony Pennock has too. Expect Patmore to be lining up against us next season, probably for Stevenage. And there's no manager in place to find a replacement, so no moves can be made for players like Paul Barnes who become available.
Equally as amazing, Gareth Risbridger, a highly promising reserve who made a few successful first team outings, is released. Who's making these decisions when there's no manager? It can only be the board, so they must take the flack when it goes wrong.
Hereford stand to gain an extra payment on the McIndoe transfer deal if Yeovil win the title, but they don't roll over this evening. They are out of the blocks quicker than the home side, but the Glovers do take a lead with the first attack. However, Hereford immediately equalise, as Yeovil's defence fails to cope with striker Rob Elmes.
Skiverton starts up front again, but soon there is a reshuffle and he moves back into defence, and Yeovil settle down somewhat. Hereford take the lead though after half-time, but David Piper's impressive diving header gives us hope - hope that's dashed in stoppage time. As the Glovers push for a crucial winner, Rodgerson picks up a rebound at the other end to take the points for Hereford, and end the title push.
A game that doesn't really mean much - and the players already know about Addison's impending resignation. The match has the air of a pre-season friendly. Scarborough win with a penalty, and the season is over.
Disappointment in how it finished, but it's still the best season the club has had in the modern structure of the game, and there have been some truly memorable moments.
