Steve Stott photo Yeovil midfielder and Club Captain Steve Stott gives his view of things from the inside.

This time, Steve looks back on the 97/98 season.

It has finally sunk in, the season is actually over. I know it's over because I have already played a game of cricket for the village and I found myself out shopping on a Saturday! Sad, but true. I really didn't want the season to finish in the end. Things were going well and the confidence in the team was just bubbling up nicely. I would be quite happy to start the new season now!

As it is we can hopefully take the spirit and atmosphere that has built up in the team through to next season. With three or four quality additions to the squad of the right character there is no reason why we shouldn't improve on last season's showing. A top six spot should not be beyond us if our away form improves and of course once you get yourself in that position you never know what can happen.

Probably the major event this season was obviously the leaving of Graham Roberts in the unfortunate manner that it happened. Nobody should however forget what he achieved for Yeovil Town. Gaining the one promotion spot in what is probably the toughest of the three conference feeder leagues was an enormous achievement and I for one will be forever grateful to him for bringing me to Yeovil Town.

Our early cup exits were a disappointing feature of the season and hopefully we can remedy that next season. (I am due a run in the FA Trophy having never even played in a quarter-final.) If we can just avoid Hayes we might have a chance! Still, the season ended on a high note; an injection of youth in the shape of Dave Piper, Ben Smith, Sam Winston and the return of Steve Parmenter along with the introduction of the experienced Steve Thompson (who nevertheless runs round like a teenager) lifted everybody at the club.

My own personal highlights included being made club captain and picking up a couple of player of the year awards of course, but most of all it was how much I was enjoying my football again. All through the club right from the officials to the staff and especially the supporters have all been fantastic.

Enjoy the World Cup!
