The Upheaval
The uncertainty at last seems to be over with Colin Lippiatt being appointed as head coach, Terry Cotton as his assistant and Colin Fielder as player coach. The period leading up to the new regime was pretty difficult for supporters, staff and players alike and we seem to have struggled for form accordingly. Hopefully the change will signify the start of a more settled atmosphere and everybody can get on with the job in hand i.e. to get Yeovil moving up the table again.
Yeovil 2, Morecambe 3 (7/3/1998)
Saturday was very disappointing in the way we defended so naïvely and got caught on the break time and time again. Morecambe, to give them their due, were pretty sharp and quick up front, but I still feel we are going to have to deal with teams who counter attack on the break much better than we did on Saturday if we are going to challenge the top teams in the league. Having said that, there were a lot of positives to come out of the game. We controlled the match with good possession for long periods and in spells played some of our best football for a while. Also, I thought the new lads coming in today did very well, especially Ben Smith and Steve Parmenter who were outstanding. Maybe when we got it back to 2-2 we should have settled for that, but our undoing was pushing for the three points and getting caught with the sucker punch!
Kettering 1, Yeovil 1 (10/3/1998)
Tuesday night against my former club Kettering Town was dominated more by the weather conditions and the state of the pitch than any of the players on view. A scrappy game at the best of times it was always going to be a question of attitude and commitment and I was pleased with the way we fought back from being 1-0 down to get a point we needed badly. Special thanks to the supporters who made the long journey on a miserable night for what turned out to be a pretty average game, no doubts about their attitude and commitment!
A week that started with uncertainty and a bit of gloominess has ended on a much more positive note. The dressing room after the point at Kettering was bubbling again and will boost confidence and morale and hopefully send us on the sort of run we achieved after drawing with Hereford United away.
