Founder members of the Northern Premier League in 1968/69, Scarborough were later to become beneficiaries of direct promotion into the football league (before being on the wrong side of the transfer again later!).
They went into the Anglo-Italian competition managed by local man Colin Appleton, whose playing days took him to Leicester City (two FA Cup finals) and Charlton Athletic.
Scarborough had a good FA Trophy record, winning the competition in 1972/73 against Wigan, and making the final again in 1975/76.
