When Redditch was designated a New Town in the 1960s, the town grew and the football club tried to match, under the leadership of Midland businessman Bill Lawrenson.
They joined the Southern League in 1972, and won promotion from 1st Div North in 1975/76, and the ground rebuild was completed just in time for this tournament. They managed one season in the Conference, being founder members before being relegated in that first season.
