The City chief was player/manager Brian Godfrey, whose earlier playing career saw over 550 League appearances, taking in Everton, Preston, Aston Villa, Bristol Rovers, and Newport County. He also won three international caps for Wales, scoring their only goal in a 4-1 defeat against Italy in Florence. He captained the Villa side in the 1971 League Cup final.
Another player familiar to Yeovil fans was Ken Brown, who moved up to Twerton Park from Huish in February 1977. Ken was a great favourite at Yeovil, but seemed a casualty of political goings-on that were causing great trouble within a club that was actually being quite successful on the pitch.
Squad: Brian Godfrey (player/manager), Glyn Broom, Eric Redrobe, Ken Allen, Richard Bourne, Colin Tavener, Roger Smart, Paul Gover, Martyn Rogers, Peter Rogers, Kevin Griffin, David Coombs, Jimmy McInch, and Terry Woodward.
