I cannot remember the date of the game, even though we lost 3-0. It was a sell-out all ticket match, and was a soaking wet soaky afternoon. The old famous slope was like a mud bath.
Those were the days when we had John McGinlay playing up front with Paul Randall and we had the former Chelsea goalkeeper Bob Isles in between the posts. I believe that this was the season when Yeovil got promotion from the GM Vauxhall Opel League up to the GM Vauxhall Conference.
I cannot remeber much about the game as I was only 10 years old, but I still have the original HTV West match highlights on video.
Not much happened during the first half, until QPR took the lead just a minute before the break. Yeovil got a lot better in the second half, but Paul Randall missed a good chance when he got through with only keeper Nicky Johns to beat, then McGinlay rounded four players only to hoof it over the bar.
QPR's superior fitness showed, and they grabbed another two goals late on, to win 3-0. The previous two encounters with top-flight sides in the 3rd round had produced exactly the same scoreline, against Norwich City (1980) and against Arsenal (1971).
